St Agnes

Agnes died in about 305 AD aged 13
According to legend she was of a wealthy Roman family.
She refused to abandon her Christian faith at the time of the Diocletian persecution,
despite being threatened with death and torture. She was killed by the pagan authorities
and buried near Rome. When Constantine the Great became Roman Emperor and allowed
Christians freedom of worship (313 AD) a church was built on the site of her grave.
